The stamps project was inspired by a combination of two other works – a similar idea based on volcanic cones around Auckland and researching different ways to visualise features using elevation data.
The data behind the project is taken from the latest (2014) LiDAR data from the South West Regional Coastal Monitoring Programme. The ten largest islands have been used and they have been paired with 1stand 2nd class, along with fixed value stamps. The data has been visualised using a combination of different techniques (slope, positive & negative openness) and the final colour for each island is representative of the corresponding stamp value.
Individual and ‘Book of 6’ stamps for each island were created.
